Networks in Taiwan
5G availableYour eSIM connects automatically to these local carriers — there's nothing to choose.
Real-world speed and coverage depend on your exact location, your device, and how busy the network is. Rural and remote areas may be slower or 4G-only.
Will your phone work?
Check eSIM support in two seconds — before you buy.
Dial *#06# on your phone. If an “EID” number appears, it's eSIM-ready. You can also look for “Add eSIM” or “Add mobile plan” in your Settings.
Haven't installed it yet? Unactivated eSIMs are fully refundable within 30 days. And if it won't install on a compatible, unlocked phone, contact us and we'll make it right.

Heading to Taiwan? A Taiwan eSIM gives you prepaid mobile data from the moment you arrive — no roaming bill shock and no hunting for a local SIM card. Install your alodata eSIM before you travel, switch it on when you land, and stay online for maps, rides, bookings, and keeping in touch.
In Taiwan, your eSIM connects to established local networks (ChungHwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile), so coverage is the same you'd get from a local carrier.
Taiwan eSIM plans at a glance
alodata currently offers 15 eSIM data plans for Taiwan, so you can match a small bundle to a weekend trip or a larger one to a month of remote work — each plan shows its data, validity, and price before you buy.
Coverage and networks in Taiwan
Your Taiwan eSIM roams on trusted networks and delivers high-speed data with no throttling on standard plans. You can track your remaining data in real time from your account, so there are no surprises mid-trip.
Coverage is strong and quick across the densely populated west coast, the length of the high-speed rail, and most of the island, with 5G in the cities and reliable 4G almost everywhere people live and travel. The exceptions are the mountainous interior and the remote east: the high peaks of the Central Mountain Range and the trails of Taroko and Yushan thin to nothing in the stretches between the towns.
Getting connected in Taiwan
At Taiwan's airports the SIM counters sell tourist packs against your passport and a second photo ID, and the staff will usually set the phone up for you on the spot, which makes arrival easy — but the town-centre carrier shops can be slower and more paperwork-heavy for foreigners, and the tourist packs are priced above local plans. A travel eSIM avoids the counter entirely and has you online for the Taoyuan MRT or the high-speed rail into Taipei the moment you land.
Taiwan's internet is fully open and unrestricted, free public Wi-Fi through the iTaiwan network is widespread, and every app, map and messaging service works normally without a VPN. Connectivity is genuinely excellent across the island, so the only real question for a visitor is coverage on the wilder east coast and in the high mountains rather than any kind of access or blocking, which simply isn't a concern here at all.
In the high Central Mountain Range and on the remote east-coast and outer-island trails, coverage narrows to the towns and main roads and can vanish on the passes and peaks. If you're hiking Yushan, Snow Mountain or the Taroko backcountry, download offline maps first and treat trail signal as a bonus rather than something to rely on.
Taoyuan and Songshan airports have SIM counters in arrivals, but they sit past immigration and baggage claim and charge tourist rates for a passport-registered pack. An eSIM installed before you fly lets you clear the airport and jump on the Taoyuan MRT or the HSR into Taipei already online, with your hotel and Google Maps loaded and no queue to join after the flight.
Who these Taiwan eSIM plans are for
They suit short trips and longer stays alike: tourists who want maps and messaging, digital nomads working remotely, and business travelers who need reliable data on arrival. Keep your home number active on your primary SIM while alodata handles data.
Chunghwa Telecom has the widest reach outside the main cities, so favour it if you plan to ride the east coast, hike Taroko Gorge or head up into the central mountains, where the smaller networks fade out. For the west-coast corridor — Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung and the high-speed rail linking them — any network is fast and reliable, so there you can simply choose on data allowance and price.
