Networks in Egypt
5G availableYour eSIM connects automatically to these local carriers — there's nothing to choose.
Real-world speed and coverage depend on your exact location, your device, and how busy the network is. Rural and remote areas may be slower or 4G-only.
Will your phone work?
Check eSIM support in two seconds — before you buy.
Dial *#06# on your phone. If an “EID” number appears, it's eSIM-ready. You can also look for “Add eSIM” or “Add mobile plan” in your Settings.
Haven't installed it yet? Unactivated eSIMs are fully refundable within 30 days. And if it won't install on a compatible, unlocked phone, contact us and we'll make it right.

Heading to Egypt? A Egypt eSIM gives you prepaid mobile data from the moment you arrive — no roaming bill shock and no hunting for a local SIM card. Install your alodata eSIM before you travel, switch it on when you land, and stay online for maps, rides, bookings, and keeping in touch.
In Egypt, your eSIM connects to established local networks (Orange Egypt), so coverage is the same you'd get from a local carrier.

Coverage and networks in Egypt
Your Egypt eSIM roams on trusted networks and delivers high-speed data with no throttling on standard plans. You can track your remaining data in real time from your account, so there are no surprises mid-trip.
Coverage is strong along the Nile corridor through Cairo, Luxor and Aswan, across the Mediterranean coast and around the Red Sea resorts of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh, with 4G everywhere tourists go and 5G arriving in the cities. It thins across the vast Western Desert, the oases and the remote interior of Sinai, where the network follows the towns and the main roads rather than the open sand. 5G is still early and concentrated in the biggest cities, so expect solid 4G to be your everyday connection.
Getting connected in Egypt
Local SIMs from Vodafone, Orange, Etisalat or WE require passport registration, and since late 2025 inserting one also registers your phone's IMEI with the regulator, tying the handset to that network. Buy from an official branded shop rather than a street stall, where SIMs can arrive improperly registered and stop working within days. A data eSIM skips the registration and the IMEI record entirely, and leaves nothing tied to your phone once you fly home.
Egypt's internet is broadly usable for maps and browsing, but the government has at times blocked VoIP calling on WhatsApp, Messenger and FaceTime and restricted many news and VPN sites, so a local SIM can leave you unable to make the calls you expected. A roaming eSIM that routes your traffic abroad is the steadier option for keeping calling apps working, and it sidesteps most of the intermittent local filtering when a restriction is in force.
On desert excursions to the White Desert, Siwa or the deep interior of Sinai, expect coverage only near towns, checkpoints and resorts, with long dead stretches in between. If you are heading out with a safari or dive operator, download offline maps and your key locations first, and treat any bar of signal in the dunes as a bonus rather than something to plan around.
Who these Egypt eSIM plans are for
They suit short trips and longer stays alike: tourists who want maps and messaging, digital nomads working remotely, and business travelers who need reliable data on arrival. Keep your home number active on your primary SIM while alodata handles data.
SIM sellers cluster right outside the arrivals doors at Cairo and the Red Sea airports and pressure-sell tourist bundles to tired arrivals at marked-up prices, so it pays to settle on your plan — or simply arrive with an eSIM already installed — before you land. That way you can walk past the touts to your transfer already online, with your hotel and map loaded and no haggling required. A working connection also helps you stay in control here — checking fair taxi fares, confirming tour prices and messaging your hotel — so arriving already online is worth more than in many places.
