How does unlimited data work?
Every unlimited plan includes the full-speed allowance shown on its card — either an amount per day that refills every 24 hours (counted from your first use), or one total amount you can use on any day of your trip.
Once the full-speed allowance is used up, you stay connected with unlimited data at the reduced speed shown — no cut-off in normal use and no extra charges.
As a rough guide: 1.25 Mbps is usually enough for messaging, maps, social feeds, music and video calls, while 2 Mbps can also handle standard-quality video streaming.
Within your full-speed allowance your data is not slowed down — you get up to 5G/4G speeds wherever the local network offers them.

Real-world speed and coverage depend on your exact location, your device, and how busy the network is. Rural and remote areas may be slower or 4G-only.

Heading to Spain? A Spain eSIM gives you prepaid mobile data from the moment you arrive — no roaming bill shock and no hunting for a local SIM card. Install your alodata eSIM before you travel, switch it on when you land, and stay online for maps, rides, bookings, and keeping in touch.
In Spain, the mobile market is served by established local carriers (Vodafone España, Yoigo, Movistar España, Orange España). Your eSIM roams onto an available partner network automatically — which carrier that is depends on the profile assigned to your eSIM and can't be chosen.
Spain eSIM plans at a glance
alodata currently offers 18 eSIM data plans for Spain, so you can match a small bundle to a weekend trip or a larger one to a month of remote work — each plan shows its data, validity, and price before you buy.
Coverage and networks in Spain
Your Spain eSIM roams on trusted local networks with fast 5G/4G data. Every plan states its exact deal — a set data amount at full speed, or unlimited data with a stated full-speed allowance — and you can track your remaining data in real time from your account, so there are no surprises mid-trip.
Coverage is dense and fast across the cities, the Mediterranean and Atlantic costas, and the main islands of Mallorca, Ibiza and Tenerife, with wide 5G now live in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and the other big centres and strong 4G almost everywhere else. It follows the motorways and the AVE high-speed rail lines well, so you stay connected city to city; the only places the signal genuinely thins are the remote Pyrenees, the emptier inland plateaus of Aragón and Extremadura, and the volcanic uplands of the smaller Canary Islands.
Getting connected in Spain
Spanish law requires passport or national-ID registration to buy any prepaid SIM, so you'll need an official Movistar, Vodafone, Orange or Yoigo shop rather than a corner tobacconist or newsstand, and the assistant registers the SIM to your passport on the spot. For most European visitors this is moot, because EU 'roam like at home' rules mean your existing home plan already works in Spain at no extra cost — the registration hassle only really bites travelers from outside the EU, for whom a travel eSIM bought in advance is far simpler than queuing at a carrier store on the Gran Vía with a passport in hand.
The internet in Spain is fully open and unfiltered, and because Spain falls under EU law your data enjoys GDPR-level protection — every app, map, bank and streaming service works exactly as it does at home, with no VPN required and no government blocking to worry about. Free public Wi-Fi is widespread in hotels, cafés, airports and on much of the AVE high-speed rail network, but it is often slow, capped or login-gated, so having your own mobile data keeps maps, translation and restaurant bookings responsive as you move between cities and neighbourhoods. On a short city trip that convenience is really the whole point — you stay connected from the airport onwards without a single visit to a phone shop.
Who these Spain eSIM plans are for
They suit short trips and longer stays alike: tourists who want maps and messaging, digital nomads working remotely, and business travelers who need reliable data on arrival. Keep your home number active on your primary SIM while alodata handles data.
Coverage across mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands is genuinely excellent on all four networks, so there's little reason to choose on carrier — pick your plan on price and data allowance instead. If your trip leans rural, note that the deep countryside of inland Castile, the Pyrenees valleys and the wilder corners of the Canary Islands are where any signal thins, so a slightly larger data bucket and offline maps make sense for a driving holiday or a hiking base far from the costas, where you'd otherwise burn data reloading routes.
