About eSIM data in Togo

Heading to Togo? A Togo eSIM gives you prepaid mobile data from the moment you arrive — no roaming bill shock and no hunting for a local SIM card. Install your alodata eSIM before you travel, switch it on when you land, and stay online for maps, rides, bookings, and keeping in touch.

In Togo, your eSIM connects to established local networks (Moov Africa), so coverage is the same you'd get from a local carrier.

Togo eSIM plans at a glance

alodata currently offers 6 eSIM data plans for Togo, so you can match a small bundle to a weekend trip or a larger one to a month of remote work — each plan shows its data, validity, and price before you buy.

Coverage and networks in Togo

Your Togo eSIM roams on trusted networks and delivers high-speed data with no throttling on standard plans. You can track your remaining data in real time from your account, so there are no surprises mid-trip.

Two networks matter here: YAS Togo, the former Togocom, and Moov Africa Togo. Lome and the coastal Maritime region get the most consistent 4G, and the signal broadly tracks the highway through Atakpame, Sokode and Kara. YAS Togo tends to carry the wider rural footprint along that corridor. 5G exists mostly as a pilot around the capital rather than something you'll use day to day, and plenty of smaller towns still fall back to 3G or 2G.

Getting connected in Togo

Togo has required SIM registration since 2011, so a local prepaid line means handing your passport to an agent who scans it for KYC before the number is activated, usually within about 15 to 30 minutes. You'll want an official Moov Africa or YAS Togo store rather than a random street stall to be sure it's registered properly, and tourist top-ups generally expect cash in CFA francs. A roaming travel eSIM skips the paperwork, the store visit and the cash-only hassle entirely.

Togo's internet is usually open, but it isn't reliably so. During the June 2025 protests the authorities restricted Facebook, Signal, Telegram, YouTube and DuckDuckGo across the main networks, and officials have since floated tighter controls on social media, so blocks can return with little warning. Locals lean on VPN apps when that happens. A roaming eSIM that carries your traffic back through a foreign network can sidestep in-country filtering, though during a full shutdown nothing local is guaranteed.

Coverage thins fast once you leave the main highway. The northern Savanes region around Dapaong and the more remote pockets of the Plateaux hills are where signal gets patchy, dropping to slow 3G, 2G or nothing at all in the villages. Starlink isn't officially live in Togo yet, so for border crossings into Ghana, Benin or Burkina Faso, treat any connection off the paved corridor as a bonus rather than something you can plan around.

Landing at Lome's Gnassingbe Eyadema International Airport, buying a local SIM means clearing passport control, waiting on your bag, hunting down an operator kiosk, queuing again, showing your passport for registration and paying a walk-up tourist price before anything works. An eSIM you install before you fly is already sitting on your phone, so it can latch onto a network and be online the moment you switch off airplane mode at the gate.

Who these Togo eSIM plans are for

They suit short trips and longer stays alike: tourists who want maps and messaging, digital nomads working remotely, and business travelers who need reliable data on arrival. Keep your home number active on your primary SIM while alodata handles data.

Download your offline maps and set up a VPN app before you arrive, and keep some cash in CFA francs on hand. Mobile signal here largely follows the paved north-south highway, so if you're heading up-country toward Atakpame, Sokode, Kara or Dapaong, do your big downloads, ride-booking and messaging while you still have a solid 4G bar in town rather than counting on staying connected between the cities.
