Networks in Algeria
Your eSIM connects automatically to these local carriers — there's nothing to choose.
Real-world speed and coverage depend on your exact location, your device, and how busy the network is. Rural and remote areas may be slower or 4G-only.
Will your phone work?
Check eSIM support in two seconds — before you buy.
Dial *#06# on your phone. If an “EID” number appears, it's eSIM-ready. You can also look for “Add eSIM” or “Add mobile plan” in your Settings.
Haven't installed it yet? Unactivated eSIMs are fully refundable within 30 days. And if it won't install on a compatible, unlocked phone, contact us and we'll make it right.

Heading to Algeria? A Algeria eSIM gives you prepaid mobile data from the moment you arrive — no roaming bill shock and no hunting for a local SIM card. Install your alodata eSIM before you travel, switch it on when you land, and stay online for maps, rides, bookings, and keeping in touch.
In Algeria, your eSIM connects to established local networks (Djezzy, Mobilis, Ooredoo Algérie), so coverage is the same you'd get from a local carrier.

Coverage and networks in Algeria
Your Algeria eSIM roams on trusted networks and delivers high-speed data with no throttling on standard plans. You can track your remaining data in real time from your account, so there are no surprises mid-trip.
Coverage is strongest across the northern coastal belt and the Tell, so Algiers, Oran, Constantine, Annaba and the towns between them get solid 4G/LTE. Djezzy is the largest operator by subscribers, Ooredoo is well regarded for its northern network, and state-owned Mobilis pushes furthest into the interior and the south. Commercial 5G only launched in Algeria in December 2025 and started in a handful of provinces, so treat it as a bonus in big cities rather than something you'll see countrywide, with 4G doing the real work everywhere else.
Getting connected in Algeria
Buying a local Algerian SIM means handing over your passport so the shop can copy it and register the line in your name, since prepaid registration is mandatory here. You'll pick between Djezzy, Mobilis and Ooredoo, and most tourist bundles run for about 30 days once activated. The bigger snag is payment: operator stores and kiosks generally want Algerian dinar in cash, and foreign cards rarely work, so you're hunting for an ATM first. A roaming travel eSIM skips the passport copy, the dinar hunt and the queue entirely.
Algeria's internet is mostly open day to day, and using a VPN is legal, but there's one recurring quirk: during the June baccalaureate exam season the authorities block social media and messaging apps for a few hours at a time, usually a morning and an afternoon window, several days running, to stop cheating. It's nationwide and hits local SIMs directly. A roaming eSIM that routes through a foreign network sits outside those domestic exam-window shutdowns, so if you travel in early summer that routing can be the difference between staying online and going dark mid-morning.
Head into the Sahara and the map thins fast. In the southern wilayas you'll generally find 4G only in the provincial capitals like Ghardaia, Ouargla, Bechar, Adrar and Tamanrasset and along the main national highways; drive an hour off the N1 and you can drop to 2G or nothing. In the deep south around Djanet and the Tassili and Hoggar routes, Mobilis is often the only operator with any signal at all, so plan offline maps and don't count on data for desert stretches, borders or mountain passes.
The airport-SIM routine at Algiers looks quick but adds up: clear passport control, wait at baggage claim, find the Djezzy, Mobilis and Ooredoo counters in arrivals, queue again, show your passport to be registered, then dig up dinar in cash because the counters usually won't take a foreign card. That's your first half-hour gone. An eSIM you install before you fly is already provisioned, so it connects the moment you land and switch off airplane mode, before you've even reached the baggage belt.
Who these Algeria eSIM plans are for
They suit short trips and longer stays alike: tourists who want maps and messaging, digital nomads working remotely, and business travelers who need reliable data on arrival. Keep your home number active on your primary SIM while alodata handles data.
If you land during the June exam period, don't rely on a single local line staying fully connected all day, because social and messaging apps can be blocked for a few hours during exam sessions. Have a roaming eSIM as your always-on backup so maps, ride-hailing and messaging keep working while the domestic network is throttled. Outside exam season this is less of a worry, but carrying data that routes abroad is still the simplest way to be online the second you step off the plane.
